Supporting local manufacturing
Manufacturing is the cornerstone of the Victorian economy, providing a diverse range of jobs, high-quality exports and substantial economic growth. The Victorian Government recognises manufacturing's strategic importance and is committed to supporting the industry's growth.
To assist companies with this transformation, the Victorian Government has partnered with industry to deliver initiatives designed to help boost local manufacturing businesses, create new jobs and secure new global supply chain opportunities.
Regional Manufacturing Clusters
The Regional Manufacturing Clusters initiative is being delivered by the Australian Industry Group, along with Regional Development Victoria, regional councils, industry groups, research bodies and chambers of commerce. It supports manufacturers in regional Victoria to grow their business through strategic connections, as well as training and practical assistance focussed on innovation, upskilling, scaling up trade and supply chain opportunities.
Industry 4.0 Hub
The Advanced Manufacturing Industry 4.0 Hub is being delivered in partnership with the Swinburne University of Technology, providing a new model of university-industry collaboration where businesses and universities not only co-create technology but also business strategy.
The Hub will assist Victorian manufacturers to develop digitalisation strategies for their business, increase their digital maturity and provide training to help them use Industry 4.0 technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, smart robotics and virtual reality to grow their business and innovate on their business model.
Additive Manufacturing Hub
With Victorian Government support, Australian Manufacturing Technology Institute Limited (AMTIL) has established a new Additive Manufacturing Hub to help connect Victorian businesses with breakthrough additive manufacturing.
The Hub was launched on 3 September 2018 and will help improve access for local companies to Victoria’s world-class advanced manufacturing infrastructure and promote Victoria as a globally significant destination for additive manufacturing investment.
Hub members in Victoria will be able to access the ‘Build it Better’ Advanced Manufacturing Hub Grants Program. The grants will provide assistance to companies that want to develop business cases for investment in Advanced Manufacturing technology, undertake design services or re-engineer existing products.
Australian Graphene Industry Association
The Australian Graphene Industry Association (AGIA) was established in 2018 with Victorian Government support to promote and facilitate the development of Australia’s graphene and graphene-related materials industry. The AGIA coordinates and develops contributions to standards and regulations, and facilitates knowledge sharing and relationships across local industry and the research community. The AGIA will help ensure that graphene related research capabilities are translated into local economic outcomes.
The founding members of AGIA include Imagine Intelligent Materials, Geofabrics Australasia, Ionic Industries, and Swinburne University.
Auto Innovation Centre
The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), with support from the Victorian Government, has established an Auto Innovation Centre (AIC) to provide Australian automotive product designers and manufacturers with the high-tech equipment, tools, vehicles and latest digital technologies required to innovate, design and test products for domestic and export markets.
The AIC offers a mix of key services to the automotive industry including; specialized training, premium vehicle testing services such as Swine-with-Dwell testing (ADR35/88) and brake performance testing (ADR31/35), vehicle 3D scanning, printing and rapid prototyping, provision of OEM vehicle data and measurements, and vehicle and workshop hire.
