From June to October, Victoria hosts some of Australia’s best snow attractions. Find out where to go and what to do before the snow melts away.

From hot chocolate and marshmallow toasts by the fire, to carving fresh powder on the slopes, Victoria’s north-eastern alps deliver winter magic into early October.

Beyond the snow, you can celebrate the chilly season with cellar doors, horseback tours, boutique stays and scenic hikes. Check out a few ways to make the most of the final weeks of Victoria’s snow season.

Adventures in the Alpine Shire

Three and a half hours north-east of Melbourne sits the Alpine Shire, an area of Victoria known for its beautiful valleys, snow-capped peaks and pristine rivers.

If you’re chasing snow or high-country adventure, the Alpine Shire delivers. With tree-lined streets and craft beers, Falls Creek Alpine Resort offers endless fun on the slopes and Mount Bogong challenges outdoor enthusiasts with its towering peak.

If you’re travelling around Myrtleford late in the month, you might be there just in time for the Myrtleford Farmers Market. Typically, late in the month and always on Saturday, this farmers' market contains some of the best produce and supplies from local small businesses. Why not try locally grown honey or garlic, handcrafted Aussie rugs, or take home some native flowers from around the region.

For the adventurers, there are the homestead and horseback tours at the Spring Spur, a family-run business. This farm is home to the Bogong Horseback Adventures, a tour that’s been saddling Victorians since 1986. Visitors can stay at the farm, enjoy horseback tours ranging from a full day to two hours or dine in at their restaurant and bar.

With a massive 450 hectares of perfect snow terrain, Falls Creek Alpine Resort offers the largest skiable area in Victoria. There are enough winter activities to keep Jack Frost busy with skiing, snowboarding and guided winter tours. Off the slopes, the village buzzes with life, with more than 28 bars and restaurants ready to tempt visitors.

Hankering for a hike? Why not try Mount Bogong. This is Victoria’s highest mountain, located in the Alpine National Park. Interestingly, it’s also the state’s highest altitude for outdoor adventurers, wildlife spotters and nature enthusiasts. You can camp, climb or cycle in and around Mount Bogong.

Things to do in Mansfield Shire

If you’ve never visited Victoria’s high country, it’s high time you make the 2 and a half hour trip from Melbourne. What was once cattle country is now a playground for adventure sports, river walks and regional food and wine.

The town of Mansfield and Mount Buller Alpine Resort are the region’s crown jewels.

Kick off your day sipping and sightseeing through Mansfield’s boutique spots, enjoying the flavours of the region’s thriving food and wine scene. At Darling Estate, a family-run winery, small-batch wines are made with care, capturing the essence of the valley and mountains.

No day trip or weekend away is complete without a souvenir. The Wax Trade is a small boutique-style candle shop producing hand poured soy wax candles and other home fragrance products. Fill your home with the scents of Victoria’s high country from this Rutherglen business.

With support from the Regional Tourism Investment Fund, the redeveloped Goughs Bay Boat Club now offers lakeside dining and function spaces, perfect for a post-ski wind-down or a summer return trip.

Round out your Mansfield Shire adventure with a day (or 2) at Mt Buller. Visitors can enjoy the mountain air while skiing, snowboarding or riding the chairlifts. There’s also plenty to do if you want to stay warm, such as spas, indoor sport and a cinema.

With a wide selection of nature activities, winter sports and local small businesses, Mansfield Shire is the perfect getaway for any age or occasion.

Raise a glass in King Valley

Just a short drive from the snowfields, the King Valley offers a sparkling detour for those wanting to swap snow boots for wine glasses. With $4 million funding from the Victorian Government, the King Valley Prosecco Road Revitalisation Project will transform the region’s sparkling tourism offering, delivering upgraded townships, scenic trails and a striking public art gateway.

Whether you’re cycling between cellar doors, admiring the Bubbles in the Landscape sculpture in Oxley, or sipping crisp prosecco in Whitfield (recently crowned a Bronze 2025 Top Tiny Tourism Town winner), the King Valley blends Italian hospitality with high-country charm.

If you’re looking for a place to stay, Dal Zotto’s newly opened boutique accommodation (crafted from recycled shipping containers) offers a stylish stay with a nod to the region’s heritage, complete with art, wellness and workshop spaces.

For all things fizzy and bubbly, visit the home of prosecco in Wangaratta – Prosecco Road. This is one of Australia’s best places to try the country’s best prosecco.
